Learn how to make deliciously crunchy Air Fryer Tater Tots! You’ll have the perfect gluten free side dish in just minutes!
Air Fryer Tater Tots
Tater tots are one of my favorite sides! But tater tots are traditionally fried in oil, making them greasy and too soft. This also makes them very high in calories and fat. These Air Fryer Tater Tots are so much better! They are super crunchy and crispy, you’ll never want them any other way! By preparing them in the air fryer, your tater tots will also be much healthier.
I love using my Air Fryer for pretty much everything. From sides like Mozzarella Sticks, Cauliflower or Carrot Fries, to full dinners such as Chicken Tenders or Chicken Wings. I even have an Air Fryer Keto Brownie! And Tater Tots are no exception! This side dish goes from frozen to fresh in just minutes!
Are tater tots gluten free?
Yes, tater tots are generally gluten free, but some brands do add flour so check the package and ingredients to be sure. Ore Ida, Alexia, Kroger and Walmart are all gluten free!
How long to cook Tater Tots in an Air Fryer?
You can get crispy, non-greasy tater tots in about 15 minutes with the air fryer! Tater tots cooked for 14 minutes at 390 degrees F result in the perfectly crunchy tater tot!
How to cook frozen Tater Tots in an Air Fryer
First, preheat your air fryer to 390 degrees F. Spray your basket or rack with oil, add your tater tots, and spray them with oil as well. Cook 7 minutes, flip or shake, then cook an additional 7 minutes. If you want to add cheese, push all the tater tots together in the final minute of cooking and add your cheese so that it gets nice and melty without overcooking your tots.

What is an Air Fryer?
An Air Fryer is essentially a miniature convection oven that fits on your counter top. The real draw of an Air Fryer is that it cooks your food with very little, if any, oil. The Air Fryer cooks by circulating hot air, and it cooks to a perfect crisp texture! So your food comes out exactly how you get it at a restaurant, but without any deep frying.
I use this Ninja Air Fryer and I have had a lot of success with it. It has a basket, but there are several that have racks instead. There are also ones with two separate baskets, so you can cook more than one thing at the same time!
Tips for the best Air Fryer Tater Tots
- Be sure to preheat your Air Fryer so your tots come out super crunchy!
- Flip your tots halfway through so they are cooked through
- The olive oil really helps in making the tots crispy, so don’t skip this step!
- Add toppings! Salt, pepper, cheese, chili, gravy or taco meat are all great!
