Can you make Brownies in an Air Fryer?

Yes! You can make a delicious, rich chocolate brownie packed with dark chocolate chips right in the air fryer! If you have ever tried to make baked goods in the air fryer, you might know it can be a little hit and miss. When cooking a full size pan of baked goods, it can be hard to get the center completely done before the outside is overcooked.

This easy brownie for one is the perfect solution! You get a fresh, hot fudgy brownie that is perfectly cooked because we use a ramekin to make small single serving portions! Don’t worry, if you are cooking for 2-3 people you can easily fit three ramekins in even a small air fryer!

If your sweet tooth tends to control you (especially with those late night cravings), this is the perfect keto dessert for you! Instead of being tempted with an entire pan of chocolate chip bars, you can happily eat this entire air fryer brownie for under 300 calories and 5 net carbs!

Ingredients for Keto Mug Brownies

As always, this is a quick overview of the ingredients you will need for this recipe. To get the complete, printable recipe just keep scrolling. In addition to a 6 ounce ramekin you will need:

  • Butter: salted or unsalted butter will work in this recipe.
  • Almond Flour: see notes if using coconut flour.
  • Keto-friendly sweetener: monkfruit or Swerve, golden or white. (If you’re not keto, you can use sugar)
  • Cocoa Powder: the higher the quality the better.
  • Egg white: do not use the whole egg; it will result in a fluffy, cake-like brownie.
  • Baking Powder, Vanilla Extract, and pinch of salt: provides lift, volume and (of course) flavor.
  • Sugar Free Chocolate Chips: I used dark chocolate, but there are many flavor varieties available now.

How to Make Brownies in an Air Fryer?

This is so easy because you mix the gluten free brownie recipe right in the ramekin and pop it right into the air fryer! There is basically no clean up!

  • Melt the butter in a small ramekin and add the almond flour, sweetener, cocoa powder, baking powder, salt, egg white and vanilla extract. The mixture will be thick. Be sure not to over mix, just mix until it is combined. It will be glossy like boxed brownie mix. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 325 degrees F for 3 minutes. Add the ramekin to the preheated air fryer.
  • 6 minute cook time: will likely give you fudgy brownies that are cooked all the way around the edges and slightly underdone in the center.
  • 8 minute cook time: will likely give you brownies that are cooked all the way through.
  • Allow brownie to sit for 1 minute after cooking.

What temperature do you cook brownies in an air fryer?

While most people default to high cooking temps for a short period of time in an air fryer, that isn’t a good rule of thumb for baked goods. Preheat the air fryer to 325 degrees for 3 minutes, add your brownie and then follow the cooking times listed below.

Top your Air Fryer Brownie with homemade whipped cream, ice cream, or caramel syrup!

How long do you cook brownies in an air fryer?

  • 325 degrees F for 6 minutes will likely give you fudgy brownies that are cooked all the way around the edges and slightly underdone in the center. This is my personal preference; I love a good gooey brownie center!
  • 325 degrees F for 8 minutes will give you brownies that are cooked all the way through.
  • Allow the brownie to sit for one minute after cooking.

Can you make Air Fryer Brownies with coconut flour?

Yes, you can! If you would like to use coconut flour, reduce the amount to just 2.5 teaspoons. Coconut flour is able to absorb a lot more moisture, so we use less for the best taste and texture. I didn’t notice any coconut taste affecting the flavor of the brownie.

Tips for the Best Air Fryer Brownies

  • Preheat the air fryer: this is essential so the brownie can cook as evenly as possible. It is just like preheating your oven, you just can’t skip this step with good results.
  • Egg white: I don’t like wasting ingredients either, but skip the egg yolk this time. Using the full egg will result in fluffy cake-like brownies, not fudgy.
  • Cooking time: I’ve given two cooking times, 6 minutes for slightly underdone brownies (my fave) and 8 minutes for fully set brownies. Each air fryer is different, so just watch your specific machine closely and remove when they have reached your desired texture.
  • Size: I used a 6 ounce ramekin and it fits perfectly. If you use a different size the cooking times will likely be off a bit.
  • Toppings: You can enjoy your brownie on its own or top it with homemade espresso whipped cream, keto caramel sauce, or a keto frosting!
