The nieces and nephew were asking for hot dogs again, so we took this opportunity to test out our Air Fryer! I wanted to avoid firing up the grill because of gross weather, so we spent all afternoon testing different temperatures and cooking times, looking for the absolute best hot dog. These kiddos are super picky, so they weren’t satisfied until we got the juiciest hot dog with a crisp, blistered exterior, perfect for holding toppings! These Air Fry Hot Dogs are going to be your new go-to for quick, kid-friendly lunches and dinners.

Ingredients for Air Fry Hot Dogs

  • Hot Dogs – Choose your favorite brand, any kind will work.
  • Hot Dog Buns – Any kind will work; we love the type that are split on top, not the side.
  • Optional Toppings: Mustard, Ketchup, Relish, Cheese, Chopped onions, Chili, Sourcrout, Coleslaw, etc.

How to Cook Hot Dogs in Air Fryer

  1. Preheat. Get your air fryer going at 390 degrees F, letting it run for 2-3 minutes to get hot.
  2. Cook. Place hot dogs in a single layer in the air fryer and cook for 5-6 minutes. For even cooking, make sure to shake the basket or roll the hot dogs over once halfway through the cooking time.
  3. Optional: Toast the buns. We like when the hot dog buns are warm and a bit crisp on top, so we like to throw those into the air fryer for a minute before assembling the hot dogs.
  4. Enjoy. Serve immediately with your favorite toppings.

Tips for the Best Hot Dogs in Air Fryer

  • Add toppings! Some of my favorites are mustard, ketchup, and relish. But I know some people who add cheese and mayonnaise to theirs! You can also add chili and top with cheese!
  • Do not overcook. You don’t want your dogs to burst open while cooking!
  • Toast the buns. You can add tons of flavor and great texture when you toast the buns, too.
