When the nieces and nephew are at my parents’ house, they’re always begging for frozen fish sticks! I didn’t remember them being THAT good, so I had to ask my mom if she was doing anything special. She said the only thing she did differently now was that she used the air fryer. Of course, the air fryer! After all the “experiments” (aka: their lunches), she has found the absolute perfect time and temperature for crispy, crunchy fish sticks that stay nice and flaky on the inside. These are never soggy or dried out!

Why you’ll love frozen fish sticks in the air fryer:
- Quick – These can be ready in about 10 minutes, so it’s great for busy weeks.
- Kid Friendly – These are neutral in flavor, have a good crunch, and are great for dipping… Perfect for kids!
- Excellent Texture – The quick, hot convection in the air fryer brings out the very best in breaded fish sticks.
Ingredients for Air Fryer Fish Sticks
- Frozen Fish Sticks – I used Gorton’s fish sticks, but you can use your favorite brand.
- Neutral Cooking Oil Spray – Avocado oil, olive oil, Pam spray oil, whatever you like.
How to Air Fry Fish Sticks
This is super simple; it’s a great beginner recipe to get kids and novices in the kitchen! You just need an Air Fryer.

- Preheat air fryer to 400 degrees.
- Spray the basket or rack with oil.
- Add fish sticks to basket/rack in single layer, leaving space in between each. If you like a great crunch, spray fish sticks with oil.
- Cook for 7-10 minutes depending on your preferred level of crispness. Flip once halfway through the cooking time.
What to Serve with Air Fryer Fish Sticks
Serve these with your favorite dipping sauce (ketchup, tartar sauce, or this creamy sriracha sauce). A few of our favorite sides with fish sticks:

Storage & Reheating:
- Fridge: airtight container up to 2 days
- Freezer: cooked fish sticks will last up to 2 months in freezer-safe container.
- Reheating: To keep fish sticks crispy but not dried out, reheat in the oven at 350 degrees F.
How long to cook Fish Sticks in Air Fryer
Generally you need 8-10 minutes of cooking time. Cook for 3-5 minutes then flip your fish sticks and continue cooking for 4-5 more minutes or until they are brown enough for you.
You can skip the oil entirely if you choose! You may notice some sticking depending on your air fryer, and the breading will not get quite as crispy without the oil, but the fish sticks still cook up beautifully.
I used Gorton’s Fish Sticks, but if you have a preferred brand go ahead and use it! Remember, this recipe is for fish sticks, if using a fish fillet follow the instructions for my favorite Air Fryer Fish and Chips.

Tips for the BEST frozen fish sticks in an Air Fryer
- For a crunchy texture, cook sticks (sprayed with oil) in a single layer with space between each for air flow and even cooking.
- Add a dipping sauce! Tartar sauce, hot sauce, Jalapeno Ranch Dip or Smoked Queso would all be good!
- If you’re cooking fish fingers in the air fryer, they may require a longer cooking time since they are thicker.
